Patent Attorney and Potential Litigator
Williams Powell are a boutique private practice with a rich history and impressive client base. They encourage their attorneys to be hands-on with their clients and allow a great deal of autonomy. They have a highly regarded litigation practice and you will be given the opportunity to develop your abilities and knowledge in this area, such as support for study towards qualification as a Patent Attorney Litigator.
The firm has a substantial volume of direct client work across a range of sectors but particularly general engineering and medical devices. This includes a mix of international corporations (for example they are a preferred supplier for all European work for a large US medical device company) and smaller clients each with its own set of challenges. Partners of the firm have advised clients at board level, essentially helping shape the IP strategy for a variety of businesses. Because of a close relationship with their clients, in addition to substantial original drafting and prosecution work, Williams Powell attorneys regularly advise on a variety of IP issues such as infringement, exploitation and invention harvesting.
Suitable applicants will be nearly or newly qualified UK and European Patent Attorneys with a technical background broadly in mechanical engineering (a generalist background). Strong mechanical drafting skills are essential. Experience of working with mechanical medical devices would be desirable but is certainly not essential. You will have the confidence to deal directly with clients and ideally have some breadth to your experience or at least the desire to broaden your skills.
This is a very important hire for the firm and hence they are keen to give an attorney joining them every opportunity to progress as quickly as they are able and in line with their expectations.
